Solaris is a better Linux than Linux – M. Andreessen

February 28, 2006

Well, this may be a marketing ploy but in all fairness, I think the extra features of Solaris make it better one way or the other. I cannot wait to get my hands on that Opteron workstation… to buy or not to buy, that is the question. :D

My next cell phone

February 28, 2006

Sony Ericsson just announced the K800i with a 3.2 Megapixel camera that supports burst-mode of up to 9 high resolution images and complemented with a Xenon flash. Add 3G and Sony Cybershot interface and you’ve got one heck of a phone. I wonder how much this costs.

Thanks to S.L. and G.C. for nominating me.

Am one of 70 Java Champions in the world (one of two in my university) plus one of 600 ADEs in the world. Coolness!

My wife was sifting through the old CDs that we have amassed during our stay in the UK when she showed me some of the photos that we took using the good ole reliable Kodak DC260/290 camera.

I have completely forgotten some of the shots from the pre-2 megapixel cameras. Today, my cellphone can take higher resolution photos than the old critter. However, the quality is far superior than the camera phone. :)

It really is great to know how these photoshop experts concoct images that can easily fool rumormongers! :)

Pathetic DSL connection

February 26, 2006

Yesterday, PLDT finally called to confirm if the connection is still slow. Yes, it is still slow. I have resigned to the fact that it will not improve overnight so I waited til this morning to check if they were able to fix it.
Lo and behold! It is still slow! I called up again and asked what was reported by their tech people who called me up yesterday – NOTHING! They just left the ticket active and prayed that it will resolve itself. Shesh!
A few hours ago, I got another call from their tech people and they said that nothing is wrong with the line and it might be the line going in to my house and/or the modem. Heck, the modem is fine since I can connect and transfer info to and from the internet. The line is ok as per the testing they have done from their end. I just don’t know if these folks know what is happening. I explained that they might have decreased the cap on my bandwidth or something but what do I know?
Anyway, I was told that they will try to get someone to visit me so they can do testing here. Shesh! Hassle really since I know that the problem isn’t on my end!
Stay tuned…

ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 with 256MB vRAM

Airport Extreme
Bluetooth 2.0
USB 2.0 & FW400

Now this will be a great announcement on Tuesday! :)

PLDT’s myDSL Pro back to 2004 speeds!

February 25, 2006

I am getting half the bandwidth that I am paying for and I am pissed at PLDT right now. It has been an entire day with this dismal speed of 500-600kbps! Calling 172-375 will get you nowhere. A recording will tell you to send SMS to 026378303 or send email to dsl@pldt.com.ph but either way, do not expect to get a reply. BTW, the e-mail address is invalid – thank you, PLDT!
